“I would highly recommend The Complete Allergy Book to my patients and their families, as I would to anyone who needs a better understanding of allergy (doesn’t everyone!).”
David B.K. Golden, MD, FACP
Associate Professor of Medicine, John Hopkins University, Baltimore With its detailed drug tables, informative sidebars, and excellent diagrams, this book gives you the straight facts about a condition that affects about one-fifth of the world’s population. Every year people die from allergy-triggered causes, including asthma. Many people with allergies don’t seek medical help; yet if they understood more about their condition, they could obtain better relief and have greater control. … More >>

This book should be titled “The Complete Waste of Your Money Allergy Book” because buying it would be a waste of money.
She seems to have gotten most of her information straight out of her medical books instead of looking at the real life allergy problems people go thru. For instance, she stated that many people just think they are allergic to a certain food, but when they get a skin prick test it is negative. I have a problem with that statement because I can have a reaction on my skin to squash when I am preparing it, but yet I can eat it without any problems. On the other hand, my son was skin tested for corn and it was negative, but whenever he ate any form of corn when he was young he would scream in pain and then after hours of crying he would have diarrhea with blood in it!!! Now I am not going to just take a doctors word for it that my son had no problem to a certain food when I see after several times that he bleeds from eating the food.
This book basically tells you all about what allergies do to your body and that you need to go to a doctor to get the drug for it. You can just go to the doctor and in person the doctor can tell you all about allergies and then give you the medicine without you having to buy this book and read it.
A better book to buy would be “The whole way to Allergy Relief and Prevention” by Jacqueline Krohn MD, Frances A. Taylor MA, Erla Mae Larson RN. Or any allergy books by Gary Null PhD. Also there are many websites with message boards you can go to and read about what other people are going thru and what they have done that has helped with their allergies. This book bothered me because the doctor who wrote it seems to be the type to say “It’s all in your head” and just give you drugs then send you on your way. Thank you for reading my review, I hope it was helpful!!!

This book was so helpful to me. I live with extreme food allergies and have had extreme reactions. The author gives so much great and useful information that whole chapters were highlighted and shared with the whole family. I highly recommend this book.

Living with allergies can be frustrating and even frightening. This book not only explains what is happening on a cellular level but also gives clear solutions on how to cope with living with allergies.
For a book that doesn’t even cost $20, it’s more than worth the buy. It’s a great reference to have in the house if there is ever any confusion about allergy-related issues. The book may not contain “Everything You Need to Know,” but if you read this book before paying a first-time (or later) visit to an allergy doctor, I guarantee you’ll be ready to talk to the doctor about allergies on his/her level. You’ll be able to ask some excellent questions and really get the most out of your visit.
I went to an allergy doctor after reading through this book, and it totally prepared me. At the end of the visit, the doctor actually said that I talk and think like a scientist. What a compliment! Thanks, June Engel
Here’s a brief rant on one of the other reviewers…
The person who wrote a negative review on this site said, “She seems to have gotten most of her information straight out of her medical books” as if that was a bad thing. If it weren’t for medical books, many more of us would be dead right now! As to the story about the corn allergy, that sounds like a problem with the doctor in question, not June Engels or her methods of research.
The reviewer also writes, “This book basically tells you all about what allergies do to your body and that you need to go to a doctor to get the drug for it.” Let me add that this book also basically tells you about ways you can avoid coming into contact with allergens (medicine free), what causes asthma, how to deal with it, and many other things. And on the topic of suggesting a doctor’s visit… some people need to read that in order to be motivated to do it. Let’s not judge those people
Thanks for reading my review, and I hope you get the most out of this helpful book!
