They can, however it has been said that children who are around animals when they are young usually do not develop allergies as they get older. Children who are allowed to play with a family pet, play outside in the grass and dirt, etc., are usually healthier than children whose parents are “clean freaks” and keep their children away from such “dirty” play areas.
