Can A Pet Allergy Cause Your Nose To Plug, Give You A Sore Throat And A Bad Cough?

I recently adopted a puppy. I felt fine for about a week an a half, but 2 days ago I began to sneeze alot. My nose plugged and I had to blow almost constantly. I also came down with a sore throat and a bad cough. Is this a result of a pet allergy or did I just come down with a cold? I’ve been around dogs all my life and I don’t ever recall reacting like this before.
All depends on the type of dog, do they have fur or hair. Some dogs have hair which need to be trimmed such as poodles and cocker spaniels and they don’t shed like fur. One of the reasons people own those types of dogs is because of allergies to fur. I was born with asthma and have a high allergy to cat dander and some dogs. It really depends on how clean the animal is or the type of fur.
You may have been holding the puppy close and taking on more than your normal amount of pet dander which is basically the dust from the fur. I always wash my hands after petting certain animals because if I don’t the fur or dander on my hands starts up an allergic reaction. You don’t realize how often you touch your face after petting an animal, plus you are probably holding the dog close to your face. Think back to the types of dogs you may have owned were they groomed regularly and did you have a lot of contact with them. Were they poodles or cocker spaniel type dogs that had hair and not fur. I own a cocker spaniel and have no problems with allergies or asthma with him.
It can happen. Go to the doctor, if you want to know for sure. See a veterinarian for tips on making your dog more hypoallergenic. There are ways to take care of a dog and not have so many allergy issues.
Good luck.
