If You Are Allergic To A Pet, Should You Try To Find It A New Home?

I am having a possible allergic reaction to our pets. If the allergies are confirmed, should I re home them? Is there anything I can do other than get rid of the pet?
I have been allergic to cats all my life, which presented a bit of a problem when I decided to adopt a rescue cat from the local shelter.
I spent the first 3 months or so living on Zirtek (the only allergy tablet that works for me), and wiping the cat down every week with PetalCleanse which is a lotion which helps to reduce the allergens in the fur. You can also get it in spray form for the furniture, and I definitely noticed the difference when I forgot to use it.
After about 3 months my allergy started to slowly disappear and we are now 1 year on and I am absolutely fine and no longer using PetalCleanse or allergy tablets.
I do find my allergy comes back slightly if we go away for a long period of time, and I am still allergic to other types of cat fur, but I have become tolerant of our own cat.
I am also allergic to dogs and recently became a dog trainer….I find I am horribly allergic to each new breed I encounter for the first few weeks but gradually become tolerant to them also…I guess it depends just how committed you are to getting over your allergy, and if you mind having a bright red nose and runny eyes for a while!
Hope this helps.
Have you tried taking an antihistamine like Bendryl? If so and the allergies are still bothering you it may be best to re-home the pet
It depends.. How long have you had it?
If it’s like your baby, that’s kinda evil, when you could just take medication.
sure you can!, if it really bothers you to be so allergic to your pets
try allergy meds first-isn’t abit drastic to get rid if the pet first?
i’m allergic to cats I got them re homed to the next door neighbour and I think you should re home your pets
