I’ve been allergic to cats all my life, but recently after holding my friends cat, and playing eith them in the pet store im not feeling anything. Is it possible for cat allergies to go away? has it happened to you?
Yes, it is quite possible. Many people “outgrow” their allergies to many things. Typically, the more exposure you have to the allergen, the more tolerance will build in your system. Allergies will then subside to being only very mild, or even non-existent. Some people develop a tolerance to their own cats (and other pets), but still have a reaction to other people’s pets.
I used to be extremely allergic to cats, to the point where I could not spend more than 30 minutes in a household with cats (even the most well kept households) without a severe reaction. Now, I have 2 cats of my own and experience mild symptoms only once in a while. Occassionally I will have a mild reaction, but claritin or benadryl clears it right up.
It sounds like you may be developing a tolerance as you increase your exposure to cats. Maybe someday you’ll even be able to have your own!
I’m not allergic to cats, but I have family members that were very allergic to cats. They both adopted 2 cats each, and over time stopped showing symptoms of being allergic anymore. My thought was that they grew immune from the allergies.
it could be the type of cat and yes it is possible for your allergies to weaken over time
hope this helps
Nope
I am allergic to cats as well! Its horrible, my eyes water up, I cry, sneeze like mad, it just does not stop!!
I have been away from cats for about 13months and then I went round a friends house, started sneezing etc…then asked him if he had a cat…and the answer was “YES!”
lol. I feel for you!!
I’ve never heard of that..and I just asked my mom..and she’s never heard of it either..just a plensant coinsedence..
P.S. Never buy a Kitten or a puppy from a pet store.
I’ve heard of studies that confirm if a infant is raised around animals they have a much lower chance of obtaining allergies to them.
So basically, babies raised around animals grow immune at a very young age. I do not know if this is possible with older children, teenagers, or adults… but I hope this information helps!
you could be allergic to certain breeds of cats and not others.
