Why does it need to be a mutt? If you want a dog that’s protective and less allergenic, a Bouvier Des Flandres fits the bill. But, these are powerful dogs that require a firm hand and strong leader. Excellent dogs, but not for someone who doesn’t know about dogs. http://www.bouvier.org
Otherwise, go to http://www.petfinder.com to see if any low-alleregn dogs need a family. Mutts are ONLY sold by puppy mills/backyard breeders. Buying one is completely irresopnsible. Rescuing one is noble.

Allergy sufferers are typically allergic to the pet dander and not the pet itself. There are some breeds out there that are believed to be better suited for people with allergies because they produce less dander. Some of my favorites are the Bichon Frise, Portuguese Water Dog, and Maltese. Here is the link to the rest of the breeds at the AKC website. http://www.akc.org/about/faq_allergies.c…

There are many low shedding, low dander breeds.
However, mix breeds cannot be guaranteed to be good with allergies, despite the “breeder’s” claims.
