I plan to get a dog in a few years ,after I move out, & I was just wondering if poodles were the only dogs that were better for a dog owner to have? The doctor said for dogs it was 15,000 *allergies points or soemthing). & i was just curious if anyother dogs besides poodles were better for allergy sufferers? Thanks in advance. I am just a dog lover & love all kinds of dogs & animals & was just seeing my options. Thanks. & also i have had dogs and cats and other farm animals all my life, and i have never had a poodle, i currently own a bluehealer stock dog mix. I am just asking which breed of dog would be more healthy for me. Plus my allergies could just go away overtime because the cause of my allergies was being premature. Not that you care lol.But that makes me happy because thers a chance that my allergies could go away but just incase i want to be ahead of the game, i am also allergic to cats, but not as much.
It’s the HAIR of the dog that causes allergies.
Hairless Breeds or Dogs with little to no fur:
American Hairless Terrier- In build, the American Hairless Terrier is identical to the medium-sized Rat Terriers, from whom he is directly descended. The American Hairless is a well-muscled dog with a deep chest, strong shoulders, solid neck, and powerful legs.
American Hairless Terriers are intelligent, alert playful and loving dogs. Very inquisitive and lively. This affectionate dog makes an excellent companion for anyone. They are good with children, especially if they are raised with them from puppyhood.
Chinese Crested (hairless)-There are two distinct varieties of this unusual dog: one is hairless except for its feet, head and tail, and called, not surprisingly, the Hairless; the other is called the Powder Puff.
The most popular of the hairless breed, the Chinese Crested are still very rare. These dogs are sweet, lively, playful and cuddly. They are exceptionally loving and likes to hug and smile.
Hairless Khala- There is a Hairless Khala Medio (short legged, also called the pottery type) and a Hairless Khala Grande (long legged or sighthound type.) The Medio is a medium sized hound, powerful yet graceful. Loving and docile with family and friends.
Peruvian Inca Orchid (PIO)- For the right owner the Peruvian Inca Orchid is an exotic treat. Their skin requires special care (see grooming). Quick witted, calm and intelligent. They are usually good with children and get along with other dogs. The PIO are nighttime dogs, sometimes called Moonflowers, as do not like the light of the day nor the rays of the sun.
Xoloitzcuintle- resembles a robust Manchester Terrier. Xoloitzcuintle is pronounced (show-low-its-queen-tlee). There are three varieties: Standard, Miniature, and Toy.
Generally people allergic to dog dander are ok with breeds that have tightly curled coats with little undercoat, which is why poodles are ok. Soft-coated Wheaton terriers, Kerry Blue terriers, Portugese Water Dogs, and Bichon Frises are other breeds with these characteristics. Or you could just go with a Mexican Hairless! Some people believe that it is whether a dog can be classified as having “hair” versus “fur” but that’s really about length, not other characteristics that are related to allergens. Good luck!
A lot of tinier dogs are more often hypoallergenic, like poodles of yorkies. Also, dogs that have hair instead of fur.

I think a dog that does not shed is what you need if you have allergies and there are a few I know shiz suz don’t shed Had one, but I also have a toy poodle now for the last 6 years and I had a min.poodle for 17 years and once you have one you will never want another dog.they don’t shed they have sweet personality’s they are very loving and they love to play there just great dogs get one and you will see.
there are several non-shedding dogs
Shih Tzu are the most common
Bichon Frise
Wire Hair Terriers (and many other terriers but not all)
the dogs that are non-shedding require regular trips to the groomers so be prepared for that..
Mexican hairless
Airedales, Poodles and Schnauzers because they shed less pet dander than most breeds. Bichon Frise, Portuguese Water Dog, Soft-coated Wheaten Terrier, Coton de Tulear, Kerry Blue Terrier, West Highland White Terrier, Bedlington Terrier and a Chihuahua are also good options for that same reason but require a lot of grooming.
