I used to have allergies toward cats, dust, and mold. But after three years of getting allergy shots i am no longer allergic. I no longer require allergy shots whatsoever and i have been off of the treatment for two years now. Am i still able to join the air force if i provide all my medical documentation?
Allergies are only disqualifying if they are not controlled by medication, or are severe. Allergic reactions to common food are an automatic DQ, but we aren’t talking about that. You no longer have allergies apparently, so when they ask if you do, you can honestly answer no.
Honestly? Why tell?
When I went in the NAVY there were several things that I never disclosed. If you don’t need the shots, will never have the shots again and you have moved past your allergies, then don’t worry about it. I am certain that any recruiter will tell you the same thing.
The truth is that it can be scary, all the things they tell you, but your medical records are confidential. Unless they are going to send a team in to break into your doctor’s office, then how will they know? And as a one-time medic, I don’t recall a time when allergy shots were disqualifying.
So just don’t bring it up. It’s a non-issue. If you do bring it up, it might delay your enrollment is all.
Good Luck!
good advice from everyone here. don’t reveal anything that is no longer relevant. Your question you’ll get is : do you have allergies? Your answer is : No (because at present you don’t have them)
extend the ‘dont ask, dont tell’ policy to this… If they airt asking you aint telling… Besides why disclose it anyways? I also had allergy shots but I never told the Army
During your MEPS medical exam when they ask about the history of medical issues, keep your mouth shut.
