Can You Develop Cat Allergies Late In Life?

I’ve lived with cats all my life, and have never had any issues with them. The last few months though, my allergies have gone off the chart I have not changed my routine at all, so the only thing i can think of would be the cats. Is this possible?
That happened to me. Up until I was 21 we always had cats and i was fine around them. When i was about 23 i developed an allergy and now have to take antihistamines when around cats.
