My baby is 8 weeks old and i suspect a milk allergy.
Just wondered what symptoms your child had.
If so how and when were they diagnosed?
We are off to the doctors (AGAIN) but i wanted to know what other people experienced before i go back.
What milk did they have and for how long?
Did they out grow it?
My little boy has many symptoms, the main one is gagging and choking and vomitting and im just trying to get to the bottom of it. They say reflux but i still think its more.
He is on gaviscon and omeprisole and its made no difference.
Thanks for the help:0)
I dont have children but I worked in a daycare center and had a child there allergic to milk. It would cause him to have explosive diarhea. He drank soy milk and loved it. He called it his “special milk.”
My daughter had an allergy to the protein in the milk. We discovered it when she was about a month old. She was a little fussy after eating and would spit up a little bit but I thought this was just normal. Then she began having a little bit of blood in her poop. I called the doctor and she tested and let me know she was allergic. She said she would probably grow out of it but for now she is on Nutramigen a lactose free milk by enfamil, and since she has started this she is doing great!
hes probely allergic to darie he will grow out of it try soy milk
Ask your Doctor about goat milk. If it is a milk allergy and
your Doctor tells you goat milk won’t help, Change Doctors.
We had one who couldn’t even keep formula down. We
tried goats milk and the little guy started thriving and doing
fine. But still cant drink regular milk 35 years later.
Hope this helps. Good luck.
My daughter had some of the same symptoms…she would vomit, had bad gas, but also had eczema and rashes. First we tried soy, no luck. Then the doctor’s thought she was lactose intolerant, and we tried the lactose free…that made her 100 times worse! Finally we tried Alimentum (a hypoallergenic formula…expensive!) and it worked wonders! Her eczema and rashes went away w/in days, and so did her stomach problems.
Her doctor’s think she is allergic to the milk proteins. She is now 7 months old and still on Alimentum and doing well.
Hope this helps!
I’m not a child but I am allergic to milk and have been all of my life! My symptoms are, and always have been, being sick and diarrhoea. Not attractive at all! I have never grown out of it but my tolerance has grown with age. Try him on soya milk (you can get this as formula too) and see if it makes a difference.
Try using a smaller teet hole. If that does not work try him on goats milk, oat milk or soya milk. soya milk fed babies are big babies so use it as a last resort.
My twin 2yo aren’t allergic to milk but if they drink more than 2 cups a day they throw it all back up. Both of them are like it.
My partner Andrew, can’t drink a lot of milk or eat a lot of dairy products either.
Thy started when they was about 8 month.
my brother had a milk allergy, my mom used to feed him and low and behold 5 mins later, projectile vomiting, she used to surround him with newspaper, and no matter how much she put down, he always got over the edge of it, still to this day, he is now 43, he cant drink milk, he only has cold drinks like squash etc.
My son is 8 and he wasn’t diagnosed as having a milk allergy until 2 yrs ago. His symptoms as an infant were gagging, constantly vomiting, irregular stools and eczema. When he got older he was always trying to clear his throat and still vomited 4-5 times a week. He was treated for acid reflux for years and nothing seemed to help. We finally saw a pediatic gastroendrologist and was diagnosed with allergic esophagitis. All milk was removed from his diet and meds were given for the swelling in the esophagus. He is doing well and gaining weight normally now. He is 8 now and can tolerate a small amount of skim milk now without the side effects. If you aren’t satisfied with what your pediatrician is saying then ask for a referal to a specialist. Soy formula is the best formula for now or if you are breastfeeding then you must avoid dairy yourself. Please post again for updates!
When my son was born 15 years ago we had the same problems as you. We suspected milk intolerance but it took a month before we could make the dr listen. He was vomiting at every feed and eventually the health visitor listened to me and we went to hospital for tests and found we were right. He was lactose intolerant, the sugar in milk, and was put on WySoy soya milk. He was fine after that and by 3 years old had grown out of it. Good luck and follow your instincts, after all ‘mum knows best’ x
Not sure about an allergy but once I gave my daughter similac and it almost ruined her digestive system.
The main symptoms would be loose stools and skin irritation (eczema type thing) in the skin folds (knee and elbow creases are most common. It could also cause vomiting, but unlikely to cause gagging.
You could try soya milk or rice milk, see which they like best. If it is an allergy or intollerance, it is possible they could grow out of it, usually around te age of three. However, I wouldn’t reccomend giving your child any milk if you have been advised not to by your doctor.
In my experience, some doctors are reluctent to diagnose children with allergies unless it is very obvious. This is because some people think it is just being used to shrug of conditions which they are unsure about.
If you think it is an allergy (more likely an intollerance) then keep telling your doctor until something is done. If you push for a test you should get one. You are the child’s mother and you need answers – make sure you get them!
I don’t have children myself but I am level three qualified nursery nurse with 4 years experience and have come across alot of allergies in my time! Hope this is helpful
