Has Anyone Had Allergies To Home Diffusers?

I bought a very expensive mini home diffuser to put in my bedroom. It doesn’t smell too strong, but I think it’s giving me a sore thoat. I am not an allergic person nor do I have any allergies to fragrances. Has anyone had this problem with diffusers?

  1. Dr. Buzz says:

Rule of thumb in fragrancing is that 1% of the general population will have an allergic reaction to every fragrance (some people, of course, being more sensitive than others). The same can be said about the solvents they use in addition to the perfume. So, it might indeed be an allergy.
Thing is, people notice things they might not have when their environment changes (new detergent, new cleaner, or even a diffuser), and it might have nothing to do with the new thing at all.
You might just move the new diffuser out of the house for a day or so, and see if the symptoms go away (if so, move it back to the bedroom, and see if they reappear). Conversely, live with it in the bedroom for a few days, and see if the symptoms disappear.
