How To Become Vegan With Allergies?

I have allergies to eggs and milk one reason I’m thinking about going vegan. Another is of course for the animals. However I’m anemic, and have allergies to tree nuts wheat and tropical fruits as well. I don’t really enjoy meat but I don’t see how to cut it out and stay healthy. Any advice?

I am allergic to wheat, soy, corn, eggs, commercial dairy, nuts, fish, and other things as well. Due to the high content of these foods being fed to animals, and the protein passing in to the meat, eggs, and dairy, I am unable to eat those things either. I was more or less forced into a veg diet, but I am actually glad it worked out that way. Yes, it takes plenty of creativity and effort to maintain such a rigid diet, but it can be done. If you would like to email me from my profile, I can give you some links to useful information and groups. If you already have a wheat allergy, you pretty much NEED to give up animal products, or your allergy to wheat could worsen. Many people don’t realize that what the animal eats-you eat (kind of that “you are what you eat” thing) So you are consuming wheat and gluten if you eat meat, poultry, farmed fish, and other animal products. Thats quite likely why you react to eggs and milk in the first place, since the animals have a diet to high in wheat. I will be glad to help. I have been on a rigid veg diet for over 7 years, and have learned a few tricks to keeping it interesting.

So your first concern is iron, right? Dark green veggies are a great source of iron. Oatmeal, other whole grains (quinoa, aramenth, barley) Beans, lentils, peas and seeds. You say tree nuts – what about other nuts? Blackstrap molasses is very high in iron.
Another tip – eat iron rich foods with vitamin C (if you can’t eat citrus peppers are great source) also canalope, strawberries, brussel sprouts, kale, white wine, etc. Vitamin C helps your body absorb iron. Don’t eat with tannins (red wine or black tea) they block your bodies absorbtion.
I’m allergic to nuts too – you can totally be vegan without nuts.

Hey I have allergies too, but I’m vegetarian. I’m allergic to all nuts, beans and peas. I think it would be extremely difficult for me to become vegan, and I think you should talk to a nutritionist or Doctor first before making that decision. It’s very sad what happens to animals, yes, but you should put yourself first in this situation…maybe there are some nuts and fruits you’re NOT allergic to? Be careful and don’t start until you get a Doctor’s advice. Good luck! :)

No, you don’t want to become a vegan with allergies..Just becoming a vegan would be better for your health.

Try quinoa and other whole grains. Can you have legumes? Seeds? Peanuts?
