I’m Going To Have Allergy Testing Done. Will They Be Able To Test To See If I’m Allergic To Pesticide?

I’ve suspected that I’ve been allergic to pesticide for some time. If I eat organic food or if I heavily wash fruits and veggies I’m fine. But if I handle some fruits and vegetables or take a drive in the country during the summer I get a headache and usually end up vomiting. I’ll also get very weak and nauseated.
Anyone been allergic to pesticides? How do they treat it? Will the allergy doc be able to test for this allergy?

  1. KY Physician says:

I suspect that pesticides are not part of the allergists routine battery of antigens. Tell your allergist first before testing that you think that might be a problem and let him/her tell you if testing for sensitivity to the pesticide is reasonable or even possible.

I think that is just an item to avoid rather than get treatment for. I doubt it would be a real ‘allergy’ exactly and I don’t think there are any treatments besides antidotes for when you are poisoned by them. I don’t know if they have tests for that, also there are a lot of different pesticides that you could be reacting to.
Most pesticides are quite toxic, that is what causes bad symptoms. I would guess what you have (if you do have it) would just be a sensitivity where you get more extreme reaction than most people. Since the stuff is toxic I think you should just stay away from it rather than try to cover up the symptoms.
But I would be kind of surprised if that is a pesticide reaction you are gettin when driving through the country, unless you are there when they’re spraying? The stuff doesn’t really go in the air all that much and inside a car you won’t get much exposure. There are lots of different pollens, weeds, etc that are in the air in summer that you might be allergic to, I’d guess its probably one of those so an allergy test would be helpful IMO.
