What dogs stay relatively small and are good for people with allergies? Also, they should be friendly with children and well behaved with good training.
A Maltese, Miniature Poodle, Bichon frise or Papillon should fit those requirements.

Just put in your own postal code to find the dogs nearest you. These dogs and pups have already been altered, and most have been evaluated with children. Happy shopping!
The Bichon family: havanese, maltese, coton de tulear & bichon friese. Except for the Maltese which is smaller, the others weight around 8-14#’s. As stated, some of these breeds are quite expensive, but you can check into the rescue groups. Most of them are very selective on their placements, however, so be prepared to submit an application & possibly have a home visit, etc.
I’d like to add that these dogs are generally very good with children, smart, don’t shed, etc; however, they still need to be socialized & properly trained. Another point to consider is that they are “companion” dogs, so they need to be around people – not good to leave them home by themselves all day. I know someone who has a maltese that has never been socialized or properly trained. They leave it home when they go on trips & has someone check on it once or twice a day. It’s not surprising that the dog potties in the house, is hyper, jumps on people, etc. This is a case where their 13 yr old daughter wanted a cute little “designer” puppy, but after 3 mos lost interest in it, so now it’s the “mom’s dog”!
Sometimes Yorkshire Terriers seem to be mean with children.
A Maltese is the best suggestion for you. I have one.
It is 7 months old and weighs around 6 lbs. They are a very light breed. My father has severe allergies and we have seen no problems with our Maltese!
I like papillons. Their personalities are unmatched by any dog I’ve ever known.
And, training is done by the owner. It’s fairly easy with a smart dog. Again, papillons are great with training. Three half-hour sesions with a trainer and mine sits, lays down, and walks on a leash better.
In all actuality, any dog can and will be a good dog if given proper training.
Cuton De Tulear, it has hair instead of fur, sheds little and is small, only problem they are quiet expensive as they are a rare breed but oh so cute
there is the Yorkie the toy poodle, the shi-zue, and the Maltese breeds that are good for people with allergies and stay small.
Chihuahua is a dog that is good for people with allegies and asthma. You can buy a Teacup Chihuahua which is very small. The Chihuahua is a lap dog. Some are good with people. Then on the other hand other’s aren’t. They have different personalities. I would ask the breeder of what ever breed you do choose questions about the breed that concerns you and your family.
Staffie, they do not cast and are no bigger then a jack russel.(there not nasty like some poeple think, I have one and shes great.)
Since I have asthma I was told that a Maltese dog would be o.k.
I had my little LadyBel for over 12 years and I never had any bad reactions or symptoms with her. She was the best dog any one could ask for. She was easily trainable with patience and lots of love and she was a mommy’s girl. She got along well with children as long as they were gentle with her because she only weighed 8 pounds. I miss her terribly and I am thinking of getting another one because that breed is a wonderful and loving dog.
i would recommend a Bichon Frise. they are fun and bouncy and generally very even tempered. But please adopt whichever breed you choose.
All breeds mentioned would be good. The poodles would be best for allergy sufferers.
But, please adopt. Don’t buy from a breeder, even if they are local and keep the parents on site… There are too many puppies looking for good homes.
Try petfinder.com or your local humane society or shelter…
POODLE!!!! just make sure you train it properly and you’ll have a great dog! good luck with your new member of the family! : )
I’ve heard that Bichon Frises are great small dogs and well-behaved. Whatever dog you decide to get, please try to find one through a rescue group or shelter. There are so many animals that need homes!
short haired dachshunds, needs to be around kids from day 1, also they are hard to house train, but after that, its all good.
A Maltipoo! It’s a Maltese and Poodle mix. It is hypo-allerginic and does’nt shed! It should only be about 7-10 pounds at the maximum weight! Plus, theyre cute!
I have a Cockerpoo….he is about 25 pounds… my husband is severly allergic to animal hair.. we have had him for a year no allergy attacks yet!
i have a 7 month old yorkie. He loves people, especially the mailman. He’s okay with kids, but you have to teach the kids how to be with the little dog. My dog was so scared of my 6 year old cousin, but only because the child didnt know how to treat the dog. My 8 year old cousin loves him and spoils him all the time. I am allergic to everything: horses, down pillows, cats, but this little yorkie gives me no troubles. He is the perfect guard dog though. I live in a weird town and he lets me know when people are near my house.
YORKSHIRE TERRIER!!
Chihuahuas, Papillions, Maltese, Dachsunds, maybe Yorkies, depending on how bad the allergies are. Maybe even a Jack Russel terrier, if you’re up to it.
